What is the limiting speed of a bearing?

The limiting speed is a value that is very difficult to calculate because it heavily depends on operating conditions such as temperature, lubrication, cleanliness of the environment, and others. ISO 15312 standard can provide a useful indication of the speed at which a bearing can operate for long and continuous duty cycles, under standard load and lubrication conditions. The standard provides the limiting value nθr, at which the heat generated by friction in the bearing equals the heat dissipated through the surfaces in contact with the system on which it is assembled.
