World leader in the manufacture of ball screws

Umbra Cuscinetti S.p.A. was founded in 1972 through a joint venture between the public Italian company GEPI and the private German company FAG, for the manufacture of ball bearings. Shortly afterwards, the company introduced a new product: recirculating ball screws for aeronautical applications, which propelled it into the leadership position in its market.

In 1993, a management buyout transformed something that had initially been simply the vision of a group of enlightened entrepreneurs into a steadily growing enterprise, that was unafraid of challenges, considered opportunities for improvement, and believed in using innovative solutions to overcome limits.

In 2018 it changed its name to UMBRAGROUP S.p.A.

We design innovation

In 2012 the new research center of UMBRAGROUP S.p.A. opened in Albanella (Salerno, Italy). The Research Center for high-performance electric motors was created to support the line of electromechanical actuators, with a view to expanding UMBRAGROUP’s expertise in the software, electronics, and mechatronics sectors.

1972

FAG Kugelfischer, Schweinfurt (DE), and GEPI (IT) found Umbra Cuscinetti SpA to produce high-precision bearings

1978

The Company starts producing ballscrews for the aviation industry.

1983

FAG becomes unique shareholder.

1993

Valter Baldaccini, together with Reno Ortolani and other local investors, organizes the Management Buyout and acquires 100% of Umbra Cuscinetti shares.

1996

Acquisition of Kuhn GmbH (DE).

1999

Acquisition of Everett, Umbra Cuscinetti Inc. (Washington - USA).

2008

Shareholder base: Managers and employees enter the corporate structure of Umbra Cuscinetti S.p.A.

2011

Acquisition of Präzisionskugeln Eltmann (DE).

2017

Umbra Cuscinetti SpA combines the celebration of its 45th anniversary with the inauguration of the Test Center. Acquisition of SERMS Srl in Terni (TR) – IT.

2018

Acquisition of Thomson^® A&D a licensed brand of Linear Motion LLC (Saginaw, Michigan - USA) and AMCo SrL in Foligno (PG) – IT. New company name: UMBRAGROUP S.p.A.
